MOST loving Lord Jesu Christ, I a sinner, trusting not in my own righteousness but in thy goodness and mercy, draw near to the table of thy most comfortable feast, in fear and trembling. My heart and body are defiled by many sins ; my mind and tongue have not been guarded from evil. Therefore, O God of love, awful in thy majesty, in the straits of my misery I fly unto thee, the fountain of all mercy, I hasten unto thee for healing, I flee to thy protection : and since I may not stand before thy judgment, I yearn to have thee for my Saviour. In thy sight, O Lord, I lay bare my bruises and uncover my shame. I know my sins to be many and grievous, and therefore I am afraid: I put my trust in thy mercies, for the sum of them cannot be numbered. Look upon me, therefore, O Lord Jesu Christ, King eternal, God and man, crucified for man, with the eyes of thy mercy. Hearken unto me ; for I put my trust in thee : have mercy upon me, who am full of misery and sin, O thou unfailing fountain of mercy. Hail, saving Victim, offered for me and all mankind upon the shameful Cross. Hail, O noble and precious Blood, flowing from the wounds of Jesus Christ, my Lord, crucified for me, to wash away the sins of the whole world. Remember, O Lord, thy creature, whom thou hast redeemed with thy Blood. I repent me of my sins, I desire to amend what I have done amiss. I beseech thee, therefore, most merciful Father, take away from me all my sins and iniquities ; that being purified both in body and soul, I may worthily receive these most holy mysteries : and grant that as now in my unworthiness I purpose to be a partaker of thy Body and Blood, so I may thereby obtain remission of my sins, and full delivery from my guilt : that all evil thoughts may be banished from me, and all good affections be born again within me : that all such works as are pleasing to thee may effectually be accomplished in me, to my protection both in body and soul against all the assaults of my enemies.
